That yale thing
A rough mouth sync animation that I do not intend to fix up at any point. The dialogue is from American psycho; such a fun movie <3 I gotta see it again soon.
Animating is still quite a challenging art form for me; I've got a lot of work to do till I can be confident at it.

Picture moment
First professional story pitch!! It was successful to boot, we got Nancy Beiman laughing, and the required edits for the leica are minimal. Good job guys, everyone in the group did great work.
I'll throw up the leica when its done along with my finished boards.

Lip sync
Animation I did up in a couple of hours.. literally! I re-used quite a few frames after the word 'never' to save time. I should probably post more of these things, just I'm not that great at it yet ( the jump at the end is a good example of that)
Oh right, first ever lip sync! I think I'll have a ferrero rocher ; )

So a penguin walks into a bar...
Whew, I haven't posted anything in awhile, and haven't posted school related jazz in even longer. So we finished that bastard muscle test, and though my memory of the names was less than awesome, my drawing got a high A, so I'm pretty happy with how it went all things considered.
By the way, the polar bear and penguin are for character design class, had to be two anthropomorphic animals, that was pretty much the only requirement. So, Rodney Dangerfield and Dean Martin inspired my bear design, and Jimmy Stewart at the bottom of the barrel gave me the initial idea of the penguin. I sort of wish I could have shown off their personalities more, but the project is too small to really get into it, unless I do so on my free time of course.
Anywho, I recently had an epiphany or two about art/ drawing and suddenly I feel a lot more creative than I've felt for awhile. I'll probably expand on that later on but for now, at 1:30 AM I just want to post something and go to bed.

English over
Yea, so I'm almost done the term, which includes this mentally taxing English based elective course. As a last project I did up this digital painting from a scene in "the Story of An Hour". I had to describe the characterization of Louise Mallard, the protagonist, through graphic novel format. I'm not very fond of the story, but I still I wanted to do a good job on the picture. To that end I'd like to think I did what I set out to.

More Boards
OK so this is the new story, which by dec 17 will be an actual factual leica reel, my technical first : 0 Aside from a few changes to help pacing, I'm generally done with the drawing stage so I figured I'd post the finished boards. More stuff to come before the end of the week!

Epressions
Latest project in character design. I learned a lot about line art and construction and blah blah blah. I really shouldn't pass it off though, I definitely gained a level of control over my art with this one <3 I haven't grown into this knowledge yet, but I was able to pull this off with relative quickness. Enjoy!

Time lapse
So I've managed to finish an entire sketchbook since my last post, and at least one assignment per class. Of course that doesn't really matter if I haven't had the chance to scan anything, so I'll be spending the better part of today getting stuff ready to post.
First up is the next painting assignment. I wanted to make a cathedral but I totally bit off more than I could chew, and under some pretty hefty time constraints this is what I was able to come up with : S Hopefully I'll have better luck next time.

Storyboard finals, finally
So the project is done and this is the result. Holy crap was that long, but pretty rewarding. I like boarding, and I like my story, but I took too long and the quality isn't as great as it ought to be for the time spent. 'Took too long' is getting to be an issue, so my new focus is getting faster at arting while preserving a consistent quality.
Oh, I also want to take my blog into a less sterile direction. Instead of only posting practice and homework, I'm going to start showing off personal pieces around here, starting with a banner hopefully, and maybe more fanart ( like the bad girl and gaga pictures from awhile ago) For whenever I get around to doing that, any critique is more than welcome, encouraged even!
revised since I missed a board during scanning.

Work dump
: p obligatory crap of the week, not my fav stuff but done efficiently. Not entirely fair, I like my action pose sheet of the cyclops throwing the ship, and the painting could've gone far worse.. if my last year marks were any indication. I don't hate the skeleton from our rom trip either really. Anywhoo, still my boards to do, I tried to leave the most time for those so we'll see if I can't impress myself this week.

Story beats
Finally I get to post these! What a change after just one week; my roughs comparatively looked like crap. The pitch also went pretty nicely, I was told that I don't need frame 2 from the father beats but otherwise it was great. Part 3 of the project: turn one of the stories into a 16 frame minimum board.... considering that the 8 I did with character lineups took me a day or so to do, I expect this coming week to be pretty crammed with boarding >__> ..I mean 'yay more boarding!'

First tonals
These are my tonal studies for my first painting project, mm first tonal studies at least; I'd do some in gouache but the closest source of Acryla gouache is too far to get to during business hours at the moment : /
Got my beats finished and pitched today as well, which is actually the bigger news but since I don't have them scanned nicely, I think I'll downplay that for the time being.
In other news I saw splice tonight, it ws weird but sorta cool ( sorta creepy too ) dunno what to think of it just yet, but it was definitely worth mention on my blog (not to say inception, scotty p, and kickass all didn't... I'm just forgetful)

Story beat roughs
Story beats based on a poem given to us in storyboarding class, these are just the roughs though; next week comes the real deal. This year I have Nancy Beiman, and while it's too early to set my expectations for the class, from what I've seen it'll be a great learning experience and improve my staging quite a bit. For now, this is what I could come up with.

The last day of first year! Ink drawings & recap
Last Lifedrawing class we got to try out pens with ink on fancy dancy paper and clothed models for one of the first times. I think I did ok so I'm throwing it up.
In other news, First year's over... It went surprisingly quickly, but was very interesting! I just picked up some of my marks and I'm pretty satisfied, especially in life drawing where I managed a solid 80 under the great Mark Thurman : ) he gave me some nice comments mostly in regards to the zoo trip drawings.
B+ in storyboarding and A in layout, dunno the rest yet but it's looking good so far. I don't know what's up for the summer but I'll probably have the time to update alot more often : )

Final BG
WOOO final painting this term :DDD I'm so happy I'm tearing up! Painting class year 1 is now officially complete. Weirdly enough, I'm kinda antsy for year 2; can't wait to crank out some paintings...
Oh, the assignment was to gouache up a bg and include a character over top on acetate to match the environment.

Markers
So, I never finished this, but it's a little study of a chocolate box and a few other household objects I did with copic markers. I hadn't used them in forever, getting back into markers was awesome!

Pink Panther
Hahaha so It's been a terrible week: running on little sleep, little money, crap painting mark and a lack of approved concept for the next project and a pretty nasty day in life drawing and storyboarding : (
BUT there were some ups! One of them includes this, first decent animation. It's a rush job ( strange considering how far ahead on this I was at some point ) and the head and front arm took most of the damage from that, but aside I don't mind at all how this came out. I might fix the problems and upload a finished by 'Aaron standards' version.
